"Cannes Festival"....beyond the glamour. (Article)

Image
The Cannes Film Festival is one of the most prestigious and glamorous film events in the world. Every year, filmmakers, actors, producers, and journalists gather in the beautiful city of Cannes on the French Riviera to celebrate cinema and artistic creativity. Known for its red carpet, luxury atmosphere, and important film premieres, the festival has become a symbol of excellence in international filmmaking. The origins of the Cannes Film Festival date back to the late 1930s. At that time, the most important European film event was the Venice Film Festival. However, political influence and propaganda began to affect the awards and decisions of the festival during the rise of fascism in Europe. France wanted to create a new international festival that would promote artistic freedom and independence. As a result, the French government decided to organize a new film festival in Cannes. The first edition was planned for September 1939. Many famous Hollywood stars and filmmakers...

Interviewing actress Sarah Maria Coffey. Discussing the importance of fitness for health and for actors.

Image
The Unseen Athlete Behind the Screen In an industry built on the magic of appearance, we often ignore the grueling physical and mental machinery that keeps the illusion running. While we celebrate the transformative weight gains or losses of A-list stars for "Oscar-worthy" roles, the daily reality of health, fitness, and mental resilience in the film industry remains largely a silent script. Does a performer’s physical condition truly matter when the camera isn't demanding a superhero physique? Is the "fit actor" archetype a necessity or a vanity? To dive into these questions, we are joined by someone who lives at the intersection of performance and peak physical demand.  Sarah Maria Coffey is a versatile actress, a precise body double, and—perhaps most importantly—a formidable athlete in her own right.  In This Interview, We Discuss:  The "Invisible" Standard Why the industry's silence on mental and physical health can be ...

Smile 2 (2024) review

Image
Smile 2 attempts to expand the unsettling psychological horror established in its predecessor, but the result is a mixed experience that leans more on intensity than originality. Directed by Parker Finn, the film dives deeper into the curse’s mythology, offering a broader scope and higher stakes. The story follows a new protagonist whose descent into paranoia and terror mirrors the original film’s structure. While this familiarity helps maintain continuity, it also becomes one of the film’s main weaknesses. Much of the narrative feels predictable, recycling key elements rather than reinventing them. However, the film compensates with stronger visual direction and more elaborate scare sequences. One of the standout aspects is its atmosphere. The tension is carefully built through eerie sound design and unsettling imagery, creating moments that genuinely disturb the viewer. The “smile” motif remains effective—simple yet deeply unnerving. That said, the...

1. How was your childhood? I grew up in Santo Ángel, a small village in Murcia, Spain, as the youngest of four sisters. I had a challenging childhood, but it was also creative and lively. Our home was always full of food, music, singing, and dance, so I always gravitated towards performing. I loved participating in school plays, musicals, dances and recitals and it became a way to express myself. Perhaps because of the challenges, my curiosity for the performing arts came so early in my life, as a way to have fun and joy. 2. From what age did you decide to be an actress and how did you know you had the skills to go on TV? I’ve always had a sense that performing was for me, but I fully realized I wanted to be an actress around age 10, when I performed in my first full play and took on multiple roles. I loved the thrill of embodying different characters and connecting with the audience, I still remember their laughter very vividly! As I grew older, I trained in acting, sin...

1-. How was your childhood? I was born in Bradford in 1978 I was the first child of Susan and Robert Haxby. 4 years later my brother Lee was born. My dad lost his job and we had to move to a council estate called Thorpedge. We lived in a block of flats called Ailse House, I went to Parkland Primary school and so did my brother. I never really saw my dad in my early years as he was always working away when he got a new job always abroad so I do not really have any memories of him which is sad but I had my mum and brother. Then my dad left my mum and we were on our own. My mum went into full alcoholism and it was terrible. Men would come home and d...
