Interviewing actor and model Brinson Poythress IV
1.-Can you tell us a little about yourself and how your career began?
My name is Brinson Poythress IV but I go by my nickname Knotty because I nickname myself of my childhood and character, I’m a fashion model, actor, and co-founder of RulmaKnotty.
I’m originally from Opelika Alabama and not currently living in Atlanta Georgia I’ve been there since 2008.
2.-What inspired you to pursue both acting and modeling?
I’ve always wanted to to be a fashion model and actor since I was 13 but, me and my family couldn’t really afford it at that time because I’ve came from a private school and I gotten in the way as well. On 2022 I decided I wanted to model at first but my family said quote how you want to model and your an invert and don’t like being stared at are you sure? And I said I’ll give it a try and so I did. First it was my very first photo shoot and that was a success and then around 2023 I had to get a full time job applying to be a warehouse worker and I only worked there for a year. And I’ve audition for the ATL Barbizon Runway Competition and it was a fun night I was soo excited. Then around 2024 I’ve first gotten signed to a mother agency called IDMT (Industry Direct Models and Talent) my agent Ms Nina who taught me how to pose on a photoshoot, walk on a runway, and get scouted, she helped me experience a whole on traveling to South Carolina and New York.
3.-Which aspect of your work do you enjoy the most: acting or modeling, and why?
I genuinely enjoy both because they allow me to express creativity in different ways, but if I had to choose, I’d say modeling. Modeling taught me that you can tell a powerful story without saying a single word. Every runway walk, campaign, and editorial is an opportunity to communicate confidence, emotion, and artistry through movement and presence.
That said, acting has made me a stronger model because it helps me connect with characters and emotions in front of the camera. I believe the two complement each other, and together they’ve helped me grow as a creative. My goal is to build a career where I can excel in both while inspiring others to chase their own vision.
4.-What has been the biggest challenge in your career so far?
The biggest challenge in my career has been breaking into such a competitive industry and learning to stay patient. Modeling and acting are fields where opportunities don’t always come when you expect them, so I’ve had to stay consistent even when progress felt slow.
That experience taught me that success isn’t just about talent—it’s about discipline, resilience, and believing in your vision every day. Instead of letting setbacks discourage me, I use them as motivation to improve and keep moving forward. Every challenge has helped shape me into a stronger professional, and it’s made me appreciate every opportunity that comes my way.
5.-Is there a particular role or project that holds a special place in your heart?
My favorite project I’ve ever been on was when I did my first movie on being a background club dancer role for the I LOVE BOOSTER Movie, it was so much fun I didn’t even wanted to go home.
6.-How do you prepare for a new acting role?
When I prepare for a new acting role, I start by understanding the character. I ask myself who they are, what motivates them, and what they’re trying to achieve in every scene. Once I understand their perspective, I study the script carefully, memorize my lines, and think about how the character would move, speak, and react.
I also like to observe real people and draw inspiration from everyday life because authentic performances come from genuine human behavior. Finally, I rehearse until I feel confident, but I stay open to direction and collaboration on set. Every role is an opportunity to learn something new and grow as an actor.
7.-What qualities do you believe are essential for success in the entertainment industry?
I think success in the entertainment industry comes down to resilience, discipline, professionalism, and authenticity. There will always be challenges, but staying committed to your craft, treating people with respect, and continuing to grow are what create long-term success. I also believe that being true to who you are is what helps you stand out.
8.-Who are some actors, models, or artists that have inspired you throughout your career?
My inspiration in the film industry is the one and only Will Smith, I love his movie and as a person he’s a real talented human being, and also who inspired me the most is Virgil Abloh who is creative in the mindset and a real genius.
9.-How do you balance your professional life with your personal life?
My career is a big part of who I am, but I also know that success is about more than work. I stay organized, prioritize what’s important, and make time to recharge so I can bring my best energy to every opportunity. I believe that growing as a person is just as important as growing professionally, because the experiences you have in life make you a better artist. When those two are in balance, you’re able to create your best work.
10.-What has been the most memorable moment of your career?
One of the most memorable moments of my career was signing with my mother agency. It was the moment when my dream started to feel real. It gave me confidence that the work I had been putting in was leading somewhere, and it motivated me to aim even higher.
Another memorable experience was working as a background actor on a film set. Being surrounded by talented professionals showed me how much dedication goes into every production and inspired me to continue growing as both a model and an actor.
Those experiences reminded me that every opportunity, no matter how big or small, is a step toward the career I’m building. I appreciate each milestone because it’s part of a much bigger journey.
11.-How has the fashion industry influenced your work as an actor?
Modeling has made me a better actor because it taught me how to express emotion through body language, confidence, and presence. It also helped me become more comfortable in front of the camera and taught me the importance of preparation and professionalism. I believe both industries are about storytelling, just in different ways, and the skills I’ve gained in fashion have strengthened my performances as an actor.
12.-What advice would you give to young people who dream of becoming actors or models?
I’d tell young people that your uniqueness is your greatest advantage. Don’t spend your career trying to become someone else. Build your own identity, keep improving your craft every day, and trust the process. The right opportunity will recognize the work you’ve been putting in all along.
13.-Are there any upcoming projects that you are excited to share with your fans?
I can’t discuss anything right now because I’m not yet supposed to but I will always keep everyone update, but I can say that RulmaKnotty will Debut Soon!
14.-What goals would you still like to achieve in the future?
I still have a lot of goals I want to accomplish. I want to build a lasting career in both acting and modeling, work with some of the world’s most respected fashion houses and filmmakers, and create projects that inspire people. Beyond personal success, I want to leave a legacy by showing others that with discipline, persistence, and belief in yourself, big dreams are possible. I don’t just want to be remembered for what I achieved, I want to be remembered for the impact I made.
